Welcome to Dungeons and Dragons Online. This website is for any Dungeons and Dragons fan who wishes to play D&D over the internet without any need to meet up with unknown strangers in person. We specialise in organising D&D sessions over the net whether it be using a forum or an instant messaging program. We set up sessions for players all around the globe, making sure that they can play the way they want to play. If you would like to join in with a session or start your own (and gain access to some other features of the website) then please feel free to Register (registering is a free and easy process). Please note, you will not appear in the 'Newest Members' sidebar unless you have a display picture. Any existing members should feel free to browse our forums, guides and participate in any Dungeons and Dragons games in progress. See How do I start? for more information. There is also a chatroom which you can visit (registered members only).
Note: This website has nothing to do with MMOG's.
Dungeons & Dragons (abbreviated as D&D or DnD) is a fantasy role-playing game (RPG). Players of D&D create characters that embark upon imaginary adventures within a fantasy setting. A Dungeon Master (abbreviated as DM, also known as a Game Master or GM) serves as the game's referee and storyteller, while also maintaining the setting in which the adventures occur. During each game session, the players listen to descriptions of their character's surroundings, as well as additional information and potential choices from the DM, then describe their actions in response. The characters form a party that interacts with the setting's inhabitants (and each other). Together they solve dilemmas, engage in battles and gather treasure and knowledge. In the process the characters earn experience points to become increasingly powerful over a series of sessions. D&D departs from traditional wargaming and assigns each player a specific character to play instead of a military formation.
Over the years, Dungeons and Dragons has become increasingly popular and a common hobby. Now with the internet, the possibilities have expanded. Now websites like this one have been created to provide the D&D community with more ways to play.
If you would like to start playing Dungeons and Dragons, please sign up to this website (it's totally free!). Once you've done that, Organise a Session and wait for a Moderator to set it up. Then start playing!
